Playback singer Sujatha Mohan took centrestage when she received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 12th edition of the Smule Mirchi Music Awards South (best of 2020 and 2021), held on March 20 at Prasad Studio in Chennai.
The icing on the cake was when her daughter Swetha Mohan, sang a number composed specially for her, which left the veteran singer awestruck.
Sujatha was presented the award by director Priyadarshan and composer Sirpy, at the ceremony, which as promised, was bigger, better, and louder. Both veteran and budding artists were felicitated at the star-studded evening. Team Maanadu, led by actors Silambarasan TR, Kalyani Priyadarshan and S J Suryah, was present to celebrate the success of the film.
The grand jury for the awards comprised Kala Master, Manobala,
Vasanth, Arivumathi, Ramesh Vinayagam, Sudha Raghunathan, Selva Ganesh, Raja Krishnan,
Unnikrishnan
, and Poornima Bhagyaraj. The screening jury comprised Ajeesh,
Vishnu Priya, RJ Vijay, Kaushik Krish,
Vijay Vishwanath, and Arun Kumar. The process was audited by Ernst & Young. Playback singers
Yazin Nizar
and Saindhavi, and Sam Vishal and Srinisha sang some foot-tapping numbers at the event while actress Poorna gave a dance performance set to the hit song ‘Tum Tum’. Comedian KPY Bala and Ritika took to the stage for a lively stand-up interlude. Tributes were paid to late singers Manikka Vinayagam and Lata Mangeshkar.
