Siamang gibbons seized from passenger at Chennai airport

Customs officers at Chennai airport seized four endangered siamang gibbons and 52 green iguanas from a Malaysian woman arriving from Kuala Lumpur. Following a tip-off, customs officials searched passengers from a Malaysian Airlines flight and discovered the animals hidden in bags and carton boxes. Wildlife Crime Control Bureau officials were alerted and identified the species. The animals were stabilized and fed before being deported back to Malaysia. A driver who arrived to receive the exotic pets was arrested, marking his first offense. Both the woman and the driver were remanded in custody as investigations continue.
