Chennai: Shops found violating ban on storing and selling single-use plastic will be sealed if they repeat the offence, Tamil Nadu government has said.
“Shops that repeatedly sell their goods in single-use plastic carry bags will be liable for trade licenses cancellation, besides closure and sealing. It is the endeavour of the Greater Chennai Corporation to go for daily checks, seizures, finding of violators and closures/ sealing of defaulting establishments besides other measures,” additional advocate-general J Ravindran, when a division bench of Justice S Vaidyanathan and Justice P T Asha on Monday.

Ravindran said the corporation was going to further tighten the implementation of ban on use of single-use plastic. Its staff have been asked to go for daily checks of shops and establishments.
The bench adjourned the hearing to June 21.
