Edappadi K Palaniswami meets TN Governor, stakes claim to form government

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu PWD and highways minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who was elected as AIADMK legislature party leader by MLAs staying at a resort in Koovathur, met Governor C Vidyasagar Rao on Tuesday evening and staked claim to form the government.

The senior leader was accompanied by 11 leaders, including AIADMK presidium chairman K A Sengottaiyan and ministers D Jayakumar, P Thangamani, S P Velumani.
Palaniswami submitted the letter of support from legislators to prove majority to his claim.
Palaniswami, the strongman of Salem and a prominent Gounder leader in the western region of the state, was chosen as the legislature party leader after the Supreme Court upheld party general secretary V K Sasikala’s conviction in disproportionate assets case .
