Sasikala meeting: PIL in Madras HC seeks to disqualify Tamil Nadu CM, four ministers

MADURAI: A public interest litigation has been filed in the Madurai bench of the Madras high court seeking to disqualify Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and four ministers -- K A Sengottaian, Sellur K Raju, G Srinivasan and R Kamaraj -- for their alleged breach of constitutional provisions.
In his petition, T Analagan of Srivilliputur said the four ministers had visited AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala in jail after the Supreme Court convicted her in a disproportionate assets case.They also said that they had discussed with her the functioning of the government, the petitioner said.
The petitioner said the chief minister had not made any objections to the ministers visiting Sasikala in jail. He said the chief minister and four ministers violated the Article 188 and oath of secrecy under the Constitution. Hence they should be declared disqualified from the post of ministers and also from the post of MLA.
A representation was given to Tamil Nadu assembly speaker and assembly secretary on March 13 and 16. But there was no action on the representation. Hence, it was necessary to issue a direction to the speaker and assembly secretary to forward the representation to the Tamil Nadu Governor to conduct an inquiry and to disqualify the chief minister and four ministers, the petitioner said.
