Saroj Goenka attains His lotus feet

CHENNAI: Saroj Goenka, daughter-in-law of Express Group founder Ramnath Goenka, died at home in Chennai Friday.

Saroj, 94, was the wife of late Bhagwan Das Goenka, the only son of Ramnath Goenka. She served as managing director of Express Publications (Madurai) Limited. While Ramnath Goenka passed away in 1991, B D Goenka died of a heart attack in 1979.

Survived by her daughters Arati Agarwal, Ritu Goenka and Kavita Singhania, Saroj broke barriers to wield considerable influence on the group for a significant period and at a time when women were rare in media.

Known as a philanthropist, Saroj funded several causes. “She did everything quietly and never publicised her philanthropic activities. She will be remembered by several beneficiaries of her generous nature,” said a family member.
