Santhosh Babu, Padma Priya resign from Kamal Haasan’s MNM
CHENNAI: Former IAS official and Tamil Nadu IT secretary Santhosh Babu, who was in the news last year for refusing to clear a skewed BharatNet tender under the earlier AIADMK government, on Thursday announced his resignation from actor Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (
Santhosh Babu, who had taken voluntary retirement from his civil service, joined the MNM late last year and became the party’s general secretary – headquarters. Santhosh Babu was MNM’s candidate in Velachery assembly constituency in Chennai and came third after the Congress and PMK candidates.
“Dear friends, good afternoon! It’s with a heavy heart that I am informing you that I am resigning my post and membership from Makkal Needhi Maiam. My decision is due to personal reasons. I thank Kamal Sir and our team for their affection and friendship,” Santhosh Babu tweeted on Thursday afternoon.
Minutes after Santhosh Babu resigned, Padma Priya, who was MNM candidate in Maduravoyal, too announced her resignation from the party. But she just said due to “some reasons” in her tweet announcing her resignation.
On Thursday last, MNM vice-president R Mahendran resigned from the party citing lack of democracy in the party and its decision making process. Several senior functionaries submitted their resignation letters to the party president on the same day but cited their resignations as an exercise owning moral responsibility for the defeat of the party in the Tamil Nadu assembly election and to help the leadership in revamping the party.
