CHENNAI: Director Sanjeev Gupta of `Q' fame has won the Gollapudi Srinivas National Award for best debut film director for 2014.
The award includes a cash prize of `1.5 lakh and a memento. Gupta will receive the award at a glittering ceremony on August 12 to be attended by film celebrities like
Chiranjeevi,
Siddharth, Farah Khan and Karthik Subbaraj .
The award was instituted in 1998 in memory of Gollapudi Srinivas, a 25-year-old director who died in 1992 while shooting his first film.
The film `Q' was selected out of 27 nominations from across the country in languages that included Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Telugu and Kannada. The jurors included director Vasanth, award-winning editor Singeetham Srinivasa Rao and actor Rohini.
Siddharth will deliver the Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial Lecture on `My Tryst with Debutante Directors'.
