SALEM: Railway officials in

Salem

division appreciated the sincerity of two travelling ticket examiners (

TTEs

) who recovered and returned a suitcase -- containing 168 grams of gold and Rs 14,000 in cash -- of a train passenger.

The Incident happened on train number 16187 Karaikkal - Ernakulam Tea Garden Express on September 4. K Jeyaanandan of

Trichy

and his family who travelled on the S4 coach alighted at

Thrissur

leaving their unlocked suitcase in the train.

Jeyanandan came to know that he had left the suitcase in the train. He alerted railway officials.

“Immediately, we informed RPF staff Omanakuttan of Thrissur, and the same message was passed on to coach ticket checking staff D R Uma Maheswari and batch in-charge of the train N Gurunathan,” Salem divisional railway manager U Subba Rao told TOI.

On receipt of the message, Uma Maheswari and Gurunathan identified the suitcase and handed it over to Jeyanandan.

Subba Rao, additional DRM A Annadurai and senior divisional commercial manager E Hari Krishnan appreciated Uma Maheswari and Gurunathan and honoured them with cash awards and certificates of merit.
