NAMAKKAL: A rice shop worker was arrested by the Paramathi-Velur police in Namakkal district for duping his shop owner on Monday evening.
The accused has been identified as P Muthusamy, 45, of Veeranampalayam near Paramathi-Velur.
On Monday morning, rice shop owner V Sekar asked Muthusamy to collect due cash from customers. Muthusamy went to a few customer’s house and collected Rs 52,000.
While on his way to the shop, Muthusamy called his owner Sekar and informed him that the election flying squad officials have seized the money.
Sekar approached officials at the Tahsildar’s office. They said that they did not conduct any such checking with Muthusamy.
Doubting Muthusamy’s activities, Sekar lodged complaint with the Paramathi-Velur police. During inquiry, Muthusamy, confessed to his crime. Based on his confession statement, the police arrested him on Monday evening.
