Relatives beat up teacher for hitting boy
Chennai: Relatives of a Class VI boy beat up a teacher on Tuesday for giving the student corporal punishment at a government school in Gummidipoondi.Police said Hariharan, son of Suresh Babu and Sevanthi of Poovalambedu, was studying at the government school in Guruvarajakandigai. On Monday, Mohanbabu, a temporary teacher, hit the student with a bamboo stick. The boy suffered injuries on his hands and legs. Instead of taking the student to hospital, some of the staff at the school applied ice pack on the injuries and sent the boy home at 8pm.They also warned students not to disclose the incident to their parents. However, the next morning, Hariharan told his parents about the incident. Enraged, about 50 relatives and the parents went to the school demanding action against Mohanbabu. They beat up the teacher with slippers. He was rescued by police and has been hospitalised.
