Chennai: A grocery shop owner’s son was kidnapped, confined in a room and attacked by a six-member gang that also escaped with his gold chain and a mobile after he refused to give 'mamoo’l on Tuesday.
Police said Sasikumar, 52, of Anakaputhur runs a grocery store. His son Yogeshwaran, 24, helps him in the business. Last week, when Yogeshwaran was alone at the shop, a gang of men came asking him for ‘mamool’. Yogeshwaran refused. They warned him of dire consequences and left the shop. On Tuesday night, when Yogeshwaran was on the way back home, the gang kidnapped him. He was taken to a dilapidated house in Pozhichalur.
The gang members attacked him and snatched his gold chain, ring and an expensive mobile, police said. They also forced him to drink liquor. On Wednesday morning, he managed to come out of the house. Meanwhile, the family members who were searching for Yogeshwaran found him returning home with injuries. They admitted him at Chromepet Government Hospital and lodged a complaint.
Police are checking CCTV camera footage to establish the identity of the kidnappers.
