Prof Gowri appointed registrar of AUT Chennai

CHENNAI: Professor S Gowri, chairman, faculty of mechanical engineering, Anna University has been appointed as the first registrar of the newly established Anna University of Technology (AUT) in Chennai.
According to a Tamil Nadu government gazette notification, he would hold office for a period of three years or till he attains the age of 60 whichever is earlier from the date of his assuming office.Professor Gowri was earlier a strong contender for the post of vice chancellor of the AUT in Tiruchi but in the eleventh hour his colleague professor P Devadas Manoharan emerged as the dark horse to bag the top job.
With his induction as registrar, the AUT Chennai now has four senior professors of the prestigious Anna University donning key administrative posts.
Meanwhile, the government has appointed E B Perumal Pillai, professor of civil engineering at the Coimbatore-based Karpagam deemed university as the registrar of the AUT in Madurai.
