CHENNAI: Premalatha Vijayakant, the general secretary of DMDK, said the posthumous Padma Bhushan honor bestowed upon her spouse, late actor-turned-politician Vijayakant was dedicated to those who admired him, as well as the cadres and functionaries of DMDK.
President Droupadi Murmu awarded the Padma Bhushan to Premalatha for Vijayakant in New Delhi on Thursday.
“We are deeply sad that Captain is not alive today. Still, the DMDK is proud to receive the highest honour of the Union govt,” Premalatha told reporters ahead of the ceremony.
The DMDK leader said that she and her family would attend the dinner hosted by Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the awardees on Thursday. Premalatha said that she would take part in an event organized by Delhi Tamil Sangam to honor Vijayakant on Friday.
The DMDK leader also said that a procession will be held on Saturday to the party headquarters in Koyambedu to place the award at the memorial. Vijayakant passed away in December. The Union government announced a posthumous honor to Vijayakant before the notification of general elections was issued. DMDK was a former ally of the NDA.
