PUDUCHERRY:
Pondicherry University and Syiah Kuala University, Indonesia, have entered into a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation in academic education and research activities between the two premier institutes.
Pondicherry University registrar S Loganathan and Syiah Kuala University rector Darni M Daud signed the MoU in the presence of Pondicherry University vice-chancellor JAK Tareen, studies and educational innovations (director) Prof M Ramadoss and others on January 11 on the university premises.
Later addressing a press conference in the presence of Daud, Tareen said with the signing of the MoU, the universities will exchange students, faculty members and staff and research scholars and develop joint training modules for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
It will also enable the two institutions to exchange research material, publications and information and launch joint academic activities including conferences and seminars.
The MoU will be effective for a period of three years and may be extended if required.
Tareen also added that the Pondicherry University would sign another memorandum of understanding with the Indian Army to offer postgraduate programmes for Army personnel on January 13. So far, the university has signed 20 MoUs with various academic, research and government institutions in this academic year, Tareen said.
