Political leaders condemn security breach at new Parliament building

Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin and state leaders, including AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, TNCC president K S Alagiri and AMMK general secretary T T V Dhinakaran condemned the breach of security at the new Parliament building, calling it “shocking”.Stalin tweeted, “The unprecedented security breach in the parliament poses a dangerous threat to our august temple of democracy”. He added, “Swift action must be taken without delay. I appeal for launching a prompt investigation, fixing accountability, and implementing measures to prevent future lapses, ensuring the protection of this vital institution with all the might at our command.” TNCC president K S Alagiri termed it as shocking that two of the six youths, involved in the smoke scare, were allowed to come to the visitors’ gallery on the recommendations of the Mysore BJP MP. It is disheartening that it happened the same day as the previous attack (on December 13, 2001) on the old Parliament building, he said. A thorough investigation should be conducted and the safety of members should be ensured, he said. Palaniswami condemned the attack, saying, “It is disheartening that this attack was carried out on the same day as the previous attack on Parliament in 2001.” He demanded stern action against those responsible and stressed that the Union government rectify the security lapses. AMMK general secretary T T V Dhinakaran has termed the attack shocking and disturbing. It has raised concerns about the security of the members of Parliament. In his statement, PMK founder S Ramadoss said though it was a relief that all members of Parliament and officials, who had been in Parliament, were safe, it is disappointing that people could enter the Parliament easily, and conduct an attack, he said. A detailed inquiry should be conducted, he said. V K Sasikala too condemned the incident.
