CHENNAI: Police said they solved the August 1 kidnap of a teenager from Thirumullaivoyal by arresting four suspects from a hideout in T P Chathiram on Saturday.
Police also seized a car bearing registration number TN 13 A 8242, which the suspects had apparently used to kidnap Akash Ebenezer, 19, a resident of T P Chathiram.
Within hours after the kidnap, the abductors had escaped – after pushing Akash from the moving car near Sevvapet – after they learned that police were on their trail.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Dakshinamurthy had kidnapped Akash to eliminate him who, he believed, belonged to his rival gang (rowdy Radhakrishnan of Rani Anna Nagar). Dakshinamurthy’s “kidnap and elimination” plot was to seek revenge against Radhakrishnan.
When Akash was walking on Bazaar road near Tirumullaivoyal with his friend Satish, the abductors came in a car and bundled Akash into the vehicle in full public view.
The onlookers and Satish informed police about it and also gave details of the car.
When the abductors realised that police were chasing them, they pushed Akash out of the car near Sevvapet and went underground.
Inquiries revealed that it was executed by the Dakshinamurthy gang in order to get even with the Radhakrishnan gang.
Police finally caught the suspects from a hideout in T P Chathiram.
The arrested were identified as V Dakshinamurthy, 41, and M Gokulan, 30, a resident of T P Chathiram, G Vijayakumar, 29, of Ambattur, and G Satish Kumar, 23, of Shenoy Nagar.
Police said Dakshinamurthy was involved in four murder cases and booked for robbery in T P Chathiram police station limits. Gokulan and Vijayakumar were also involved in attempt to murder cases reported at T P Chathiram and Ambattur police stations.
