Police arrested a 35-year-old man from north Chennai for his involvement in a series of chain snatching and waylaying incidents late on Friday.

CHENNAI: Police arrested a 35-year-old man from north Chennai for his involvement in a series of chain snatching and waylaying incidents late on Friday. Gold jewellery weighing 41 sovereigns were recovered from the possession of the accused, J Syed Irfan, a resident of Sheikh Moideen Subedar Street in Otteri.
Acting on a complaint filed by M Satyaraj of Thiruvottiyur police picked up the accused from near the Wimco Nagar railway station.

Satyaraj complained after he lost his mobile phone, watch and 1,000 on Friday when he was waylaid by Irfan, who used a knife to threaten the victim to part with his valuables. During investigation, police found that Irfan and an accomplice had been waylaying pedestrians and that he had nine robbery cases against his name.
