CHENNAI: Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials of the suburban police on Wednesday arrested Niranjan Kumar, a pimp, and recovered Rs 6 lakh in cash from him. The accused had been absconding for seven years and was wanted by both the suburban and the city police. CCB assistant commissioner of police S Jeyakumar said three women forced into prostitution were also rescued.
The police said Niranjan Kumar of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh advertised online for the escort service he ‘operated’ along with Prakash of Kakinada and Lakshmi on the city’s outskirts.

Kumar, arrested earlier under the Goondas Act, had been evading arrest for seven years. CCB officials said he had set up a website for uploading photos and details of women. According to the police, pimps from across the country would contact him. Once the money was deposited in the bank account mentioned, the client would be asked to book an air ticket and the girl would land up in the city preferred by the client.
