CHENNAI: As part of its awareness campaigns against the use of plastics, the health education department of

Chennai Corporation

conducted a campaign at the Industrial Training Institute (

ITI

) in

Ambattur

on Thursday.

As many as 800 students and 50 teachers participated in the campaign. They were informed about the ill-effects of plastic and the list of 14 banned single-use plastic products.

After the awareness programme, corporation officials along with staff, students and teachers of the institute held a rally from the ITI building to Ambattur bus terminus. Students held placards that informed the public about alternatives to single-use plastics.

Awareness pamphlets were issued to traders and the public during the drive.

Corporation health education officer T G Srinivasan and zonal officials also participated in the campaign.
