PIL against felling trees at Egmore

Chennai: An NGO has moved the high court to restrain southern railway from felling over 600 trees for redevelopment of Egmore railway station.
According to Pasumai Thaayagam, the southern railway is working to expand Egmore station for 7.3 crore.
On Monday, advocate K Balu representing the NGO made an urgent mention before the first bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Vijaykumar Gangapurwala and Justice P D Audikesavalu. He claimed that over 600 trees that are 60 to 100 years old are being uprooted for the expansion project. The bench agreed to hear the plea if a formal petition is filed. tnn
