Petrol bunk manager absconds with ₹16 lakh

Chennai: A petrol bunk manager decamped with 16.4 lakh in cash from a petrol bunk in Otteri on Thursday. A hunt is on for the suspect.Police said Satish Kumar, 32, of Mettupalayam near Otteri, worked as a manager at the gas station and petrol bunk run by one Maria Josephine, 49, on Demellow Road in Pulianthope from June last year.After Josephine fell ill last month, she stopped visiting the petrol bunk, and Satish Kumar managed the bunk in her absence. As he is on leave, Josephine visited the bunk and wanted to check last month's collection amount. Though Satish Kumar said he would hand over the safe key once he returned to the city, he didn't turn up to work since Jan 6. He then switched off his mobile.When she opened the safe, she found there were no funds, and inquiries revealed that Satish Kumar swindled the collection amount of 16.4 lakh and escaped. Based on Josephine's complaint, Pulianthope police registered a case and launched a hunt for Satish Kumar.
