CHENNAI: The city police have arrested one more accused in the recent serial killings in the city. According to Nagoor Meeran alias 'Vellai' Nagu, the accused, "he met other members of the gang at Natesan park for smoking ganja and began assaulting persons found sleeping alone in the park."
A police team nabbed Meeran (26) of Saidapet on Monday. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Meeran, who used to sell scented-camphor on Ranganathan Street in T Nagar, met the gang members while he was travelling on a train. He joined the gang after its members supplied him drugs for free.
Meeran used to meet the gang at Natesan park. "They gave me ganja-stuffed cigarettes and some money whenever I met them. Earlier, I was arrested several times for petty offences. Unable to make both ends meet, I again turned to crime with my new friends," he said.
With Meeran's arrest, the number of those arrested for the serial killings is seven, including prime accused Rajesh. A manhunt is on for two more accused. The police remanded Meeran in judicial custody after producing him before the Saidapet magistrate's court.
