VELLORE

: A 38-year-old villager suffered pellet injuries after a single barrel muzzle loading

being carried by a narikurava (gipsy) man on a bike went off when the two-wheeler was crossed a speed breaker at Kalar near Arcot in Ranipet on Wednesday.

Police said M Murali, 30, a native of Amanathapuram, had recently been staying at his relative house in Clive Bazar Narikurava quarters in Arcot town.

On Wednesday morning, Murali was riding a bike carrying the pellet-loaded gun in search of a hunt. As he was crossing the Mariamman temple speed breaker, the gun’s sling was loosened. As the gun fell on the ground, it went off injuring G Shanmugam, 38, of Sathur, who was riding close to him on another two-wheeler.

Informed by locals, the Arcot taluk police reached the spot and rushed Shanmugam to Arcot Government Hospital. After first aid, the victim was referred to Government Vellore Medical College and Hospital. Police were questioning Murali.
