“As far as the existing laws are concerned, there is no change. But there will be action against unlicensed slaughter houses. They can apply and obtain licences. After that they can continue their activity (business), and there is no obstruction,” said the MP in a press conference here.

“Authorised and licensed slaughter houses are not being closed. The new rules will regulate unlicensed slaughter houses,” he said.

The MP was in Vellore to take part in a conference and in Swachh Bharath campaign to create awareness among the public about the central government’s welfare schemes.

On the impact the cattle trade regulation on the multi-crore leather and food industries and exports, he said the ban on the slaughter of cows had already existed in several states in the country and it was not new. Therefore, the new rules did not have any impact, he said.

“Any violent activity in any form is not acceptable. Anybody who violates the law and creates violence against the law will be dealt with as per the law. No such activities will be encouraged by the BJP,” said the MP while responding to the question on the frequent incidents of lynching of people.

On the demand of activists and political parties for an exclusive Act against lynching, he said there were sufficient acts in place in the country and a new Act is not required.

On his visit to Vellore, the MP said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked all the MPs, ministers and senior party leaders to create awareness among people about the government’s welfare and development schemes so that they could avail the benefits.

The party has chosen 900 places across the country for the campaign.
