Chennai: The Renault Nissan alliance plant in Oragadam near Chennai has clocked the production of its 3.5 millionth powertrain units. Since engine production began in 2010, the plant has manufactured 2.3 million engines and 1.2 million gearboxed.
The Oragadam plant makes the HRA0 TURBO engine used in the Nissan Magnite, which is now exported to 15 countries.
Powertrain production kicked off with Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Limited (RNAIPL) rolling out one lakh engines in 14 months since production began and then went on to produce one million engines within six years. “The successful production of 3.5 million powertrain units at RNAIPL is a testament to our Chennai workforce and superior Japanese engineering and technology,” said Sinan Ozlok, president of Nissan’s India operations. RNAIPL can produce six engine variants as well as four gearbox types at the facility and powertrains from Chennai not only cater to the domestic but also for overseas markets. TNN
