TIRUVANNAMALAI: A newlywed woman and six of her family members died on Thursday when a sports utility vehicle (
SUV
) they were travelling in collided with a speeding
truck
near
Tiruvannamalai in
Tamil Nadu on Thursday night.
The accident happened at Thirukovilur Junction around 11.35pm when they were going to Tirupathi. Three others suffered injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Sasikala,27, who got married to P Vasudevan, 30, of Pudu Colony in Pu Malayanur village just four days ago, her parents Settu , 60, and Kolanchi , 57, her sister in-law Selvakumari , 37, Selvakumari’s husband Elumalai , 39, their daughter Dharshana , 8, and driver Vijaykumar , 20.
Vasudevan, his nephew E Hassan, 6, and relative P Veeran, 54, who suffered injuries, were admitted to Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College Hospital.
Vasudevan, who is working at the RDO office in Villupuram, married Sasikala on December 5.
The Tiruvannamalai East Station police arrested truck driver Arumugam, 40, and confiscated the vehicle. The truck was transporting plastic chairs from Hosur to Puducherry.
