Newly wed, six others die as truck rams SUV

Tiruvannamalai: A newly-wed woman and six of her family members died on Thursday when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in which they were travelling collided with a truck near Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu on Thursday night.

The accident occurred at Thirukovilur Junction around 11.35pm when they were going to Tirupathi. Three others suffered injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Sasikala, 27, whose marriage to P Vasudevan, 30, of Pudu Colony in Pu Malayanur village took place just four days ago, her parents Settu, 60, and Kolanchi, 57, her sister in-law

Vasudevan, his nephew E Hassan, 6, and relative P Veeran, 54, who suffered injuries, were admitted to Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College Hospital. Vasudevan, who is working at the RDO office in Villupuram, married Sasikala on December 5.

police arrested truck driver Arumugam, 40, and confiscated the vehicle. The truck was transporting plastic chairs from Hosur to Puducherry.
