New research centre soon at medical varsity

Chennai: The Kalaignar Centenary Medical Research Centre will be set up for ₹100 crore in Dr MGR Medical University, said minister of health and family welfare Ma Subramanian, addressing the press at Saidapet.
Under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) special camps were conducted in Saidapet over the week.
The scheme, he said, has reached additional 7, 62, 331 beneficiary families over the past two years. “These camps are conducted to increase the number of beneficiaries who can avail the insurance scheme,” he said.
Comparing the data from the last regime’s scheme to the current, he said that the number of hospitals in the state has increased from 970 to 1809.
To include more beneficiaries, the income eligibility has been increased from ₹72, 000 to ₹1, 20, 000, he said.
From two transplant procedures, it has been increased to eight including heart, kidney, shoulder, pancreas, and bone marrow.
He also added that 100 more camps for the issuance of CMCHIS cards will be conducted soon.
