CHENNAI: The city is expected to get rain in the evenings, and at nights, in the coming days.
A met department forecast for the next 48 hours said, "The sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy. Light rain is likely to occur in some areas."
IMD director N Puviarasan said: "There is going to be rain for two more days. There will be a gap on July 18 and 19 and it will resume again."
The reason for the rain, which will be experienced in coastal areas, is wind convergence, he added.
IMD has also warned fishermen not to venture into the sea, especially near the Andhra coast because of the possibility of strong winds.
Though the sky was cloudy for most part of Tuesday, the city did not get rain. However, there was rain on Monday night in some of the suburban areas. Korattur recorded 2cm rain and Marakanam on ECR recorded 1cm rain.
The cloudy sky helped in reducing the day temperature by 3.5°C in core areas of the city and by 4.2°C in southern suburbs. Nungambakkam recorded 32°C and Meenambakkam 31.6°C.
The met department has forecast that the maximum temperature will be 35°C on Wednesday.
As there has been some rain in the evening and at night, the city now has got 15% surplus rain for the southwest
monsoon season since June 1. The city has received 126.7mm rain as against the usual expected rain of 109.8mm.
