May 17 movement volunteer who jumped in front of train during anti - Hindi agitation dies

Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin on Wednesday appealed to the people of the state that no more lives should be fought in the `fight against Hindi imposition.'His appeal comes after May 17 movement activist Siva Dileepan, who jumped in front of a speeding train ar Park railway station during the protest against Hindi imposition on March 11, died at the hospital on Wednesday. "No more lives should be lost in the agitation against Hindi imposition," Stalin said on X.Referring to the deaths in the past during anti - Hindi agitations, Stalin said the fight should now be carried forward through peaceful, innovative and technology-driven modes of protest."The objective was to defeat Hindi imposition through intellect, resolve and commitment to Tamil identity and not through loss of life. What will happen to our language if we lose our lives? There are various ways to show our sentiments, and I plead with you that ending our lives is not the solution," Stalin said.Stalin extended condolences to May 17 Movement founder Thirumurugan Gandhi and other members, as well as to Dileepan's family.
