Tourism ministry allocates 169.9 crore for TN projects
Chennai: The Ministry of Tourism has approved 169.9 crore for two major projects in Tamil Nadu under the scheme for special assistance to states for capital expenditure. Focused on Mamallapuram and Devala, the initiatives aim to enhance tourism infrastructure and create 5,000 jobs in the state.Mamallapuram will receive 99.67 crore for the Nandavanam Heritage Park, designed to elevate the historic town into a global tourist destination. The park will include Cholai Vanam, a garden park; Viharam, a cultural activity space; and Maidanam, an open arena for events.Complementing this will be 14 PPP projects worth 574 crore, introducing retail shops, sea-front restaurants, adventure sports, and eco-friendly resorts, expected to generate 2,500 jobs.Devala, near Ooty in the Nilgiris, has been allotted 70.23 crore for the garden of flowers project. It will feature seasonal floral displays, eco-tourism experiences, trekking trails, and panoramic watchtowers. PPP projects worth 115 crore will add a valley ropeway and camping tents, creating 2,500 jobs and easing tourism pressures in Ooty and Wayanad.
