Masked men steal gold bars, Rs 11 lakh from jewellery store in Chennai

A five-member gang robbed half kg of gold bars, worth Rs 15 lakh, and Rs 11 lakh in cash from a jewellery store at Zam Bazaar near Royapettah here on Friday morning.

CHENNAI: A five-member gang robbed half kg of gold bars, worth Rs 15 lakh, and Rs 11 lakh in cash from a jewellery store at Zam Bazaar near Royapettah here on Friday morning.
Jewellery store employee Akshay told police that five masked men had threatened him at knifepoint stole the valuables. They escaped on their two-wheelers.
He told police that the incident happened at 10.30am when he was alone at the store.

The Zam Bazaar police collected the CCTV footage from the premises to identify the culprits.
Shop owner Sagar Jain, a resident of Deveraj Street in Zam Bazaar, told the police that the gold bars, which were stolen, belonged to a customer who had given them to him to check quality.
