Marine police rescue fishing boat in distress off TN coast

MADURAI: Coastal security group (marine) police rescued a fishing boat that suffered engine failure and was drifting in the sea off Thondi coast in Tamil Nadu on Monday.

The mechanized fishing vessel with her six-member crew sailed from Sayalkudi in Ramanthapuram district on Sunday night.

The boat suffered a technical snag, and the engine failed. The boat started drifting in the sea.

Marine police from Devipattinam, who were on their regular patrol around 11 am, spotted the fishing vessel in distress. The fishermen raised an alarm calling the CSG boat to their aid. The CSG boat towed the fishing boat to Sayalkudi on Monday evening.

Marine police inspector S Kanagaraj said based on the instructions of their senior officials SP Hariharan Prasad and ADSP Balakrishnan, they rescued the distressed vessel and brought it to the shore safely.
