Margazhi music season: Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha honours three musicians with Kalasarathy awards

CHENNAI: Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha presented Sangeetha Kalasarathy awards to eminent musicians T N Krishnan, Dr T V Gopalakrishnan and Guruvayur Dorai on Sunday.
The awards carry a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each and gold medals. The cash prize is from an endowment created by art patrons P Vijayakumar Reddy and Preetha Reddy.
Mridangist Umayalpuram K Sivaraman felicitated the awardees.
Parakala Ramanuja Embar Jeer Swamigal of Sriperumbudur inaugurated the 119th Margazhi music festival of Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha at Vidya Bharathi in Mylapore in the presence of its president Nalli Kuppuswami.
The 18-day festival of Chennai’s oldest sabha features 98 musical programmes. It will conclude on January 1.
The sabha is also organising lecture demonstration sessions from December 17 to December 31.
