Porchelvan posed as a

Regional Transport Office

(RTO) official and flagged down vehicles on the Tiruvallur-Avadi highway on Friday, according to police sources. Some drivers, who became suspicious, informed the RTO office after which the Tiruvallur Taluk police were informed.

On Saturday, police officers observed the man in action, collecting money from truckers and caught him. When questioned, he gave evasive replies after which he was taken to the police station and detained.

After investigation, Porchelvan confessed that he was not an

RTO official

and said he has been indulging in the act only recently. Police said he would be quizzed on whether he was involved in other criminal activities in the suburbs.

In a separate incident, police arrested V Jayaprakash, 49, of Thiru Vi Ka Street in Thirumullaivoyal. Inquiries revealed that posing as a policeman, Jayaprakash visited a scrap shop in the neighbourhood and took a ‘bribe’ of Rs 1,000 on November 26.
