CHENNAI: A man, who visited his friend's house in Kodambakkam to celebrate a birthday party, raped his friend's live-in partner after spiking her drinks while her partner and two other friends were sleeping after consuming liquor.
The woman, who was studying in a Chennai college, has been staying with her boyfriend since 2023. Her boyfriend celebrated his birthday recently and invited three other friends to his house.
Her boyfriend and three friends consumed liquor in a room while the woman was staying in another room.
In the early hours, while the boyfriend and two other friends were sleeping in the room, another friend, identified as Muthukumar, went to the college student's room.
They chatted for a while. Then Muthukumar offered her liquor laced with sedatives. When she blacked out, he raped her.
The following morning, the college student realised that she had been raped by Muthukumar. She tried to contact him, but he had turned off his mobile phone. Later when she met him, he threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.
The student lodged a complaint with Vadapalani police. Police registered a case and launched a hunt for Muthukumar who was absconding.
