CHENNAI: A 42-year-old man, who escaped with Rs 11,000 cash after volunteering to help a youngster

On February 11, police said, 22-year-old P Balaraman was waiting in a queue to despoit cash at an Indian bank

located on Manali-Ponneri National Highway. A middle-aged man, identified as A Bhaskar after arrest, approached Balaraman and offered to deposit the money for him. Balaraman parted with the money as Bhaskar promised to return with the challan. Bhaskar failed to return.

Balaraman went to M7 Manalipudur police station and registered a case. Police pursued CCTV footage at the ATM and zeroed in on Bhaskar, a goldsmith and a resident of Armstrong nagar, Chinnamathur, Manali, as a suspect. Bhaskar was arrested by police on February 15 and Rs 11,000 was recovered from him. Investigations revealed that Bhaskar had a history of gold, silver thefts and duping people by diverting their attention.
