CHENNAI: A 28-year-old woman ward councillor in Thiruninravur was hacked to death on Thursday night by her husband who suspected her of infidelity.Police said S Gomathi, councillor of ward 26 in Thiruninravur municipality, and her husband, A Stephen Raj, 32, had frequent quarrels in the past few months as he objected to her talking to her male friends. Around 11pm on Thursday, one of his friends told Stephen that Gomathi was talking to man near Nadukuthagai rice mill. Stephen went there with a knife. Meanwhile, Gomathi had finished speaking to her friend and was walking home. Stephen confronted her and an argument broke out.He then knifed her in full public view, police said. She suffered multiple injuries to the face, stomach and neck. Stephen left Gomathi to bleed to death and surrendered to police.Gomathi, who was Thiruninravur municipality tax committee chairwoman, and Stephen had been married for 10 years and have four sons.Beside Stephen, police arrested his younger brother A Ajith, 25, and his friend S Johnson alias Anthony Raj, 25, for aiding him. All three were remanded in judicial custody.
