Man could’ve jumped into lake: Police

Chennai: The 27-year-old man whom police are hunting for conning a woman of 68 lakh by promising to marry her is suspected to have jumped into Porur lake. His wedding with the daughter of a private hospital CEO in Adyar was called off after he was booked.
The man, identified as Nishanth, worked in a private company. On Friday last week, a woman he had been in a relationship with lodged a complaint against him.The woman alleged that Nishanth cheated her of 68 lakh after promising to marry her. Police booked cases against him under Poco Act and cheating.
On Sunday night eyewitnesses informed police that a man was seen jumping from the bridge over Porur lake. On Monday, rescue personnel searched for the body but called it off in the evening.
Nishanth had sent text messages to his friends that he was going to end his life, police said. TNN
