and Hospital (KMCH) in the city, a police officer said, adding that they were questioning Anandaraj.

Police said Shanthi, a widow, lived at Erikarai village with sons Anandaraj and Manikandan. “On Wednesday, around 8am, some villagers noticed the burned body of a woman and a man lying unconscious amid bushes at Oonamanjeri near Vandalur,” said an investigation officer.

After the victims were identified as Shanthi and Manikandan, the Otteri police registered a case and sent Manikandan, with 52% burns, to KMCH. The body of Shanthi was sent to the government hospital in Chengalpet for autopsy. Some of the family’s neighbours told police they had seen Anandaraj go out with his mother and brother the previous night. The reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained.
