On August 25, during

Madras Week

, Chennai Storytelling Association will conduct the 10th Annual ‘Living Statues of Marina Beach’

Walking Tour

. And they are inviting volunteers to be part of the initiative by enacting the story of each statue.

“When we started it, only a few people used to turn up, so we did all the roles ourselves. But, later on, more people were interested. We give them the content and training so that they can do the performance themselves,” says Suriya Lakshmi, storyteller. “Last year, we had a six-year-old who learned all the Bharathidasan songs and performed.”

The walking tour will feature six statues -- Kannagi, NSC Bose, Thiruvalluvar, George Pope, Bharathidasan, and Avvaiyar. There will be a brief dramatic enactment at each statue in English and Tamil. There is a five-minute time limit for each performance.

The walking tour will be held on August 25 from 7.30am onward. Admission is free, and people have to assemble at The Kannagi Statue (on Marina Beach, opp Bharathi Salai).
