CHENNAI: Madras high court on Tuesday directed actor T R Silambarasan alias Simbu to furnish security to the court for ₹1 crore in lieu of his commitment to act in an unfinished movie.

Justice Abdul Quddhose passed the interim order on a plea moved by Vels Film International Limited seeking to restrain Simbu from acting in any other movie without completing the movie ‘Corona Kumar’ committed with it.

According to the production firm, it had paid ₹4.5 crore out of the total agreed remuneration of ₹9.5 crore to the actor for the movie ‘Corona Kumar’ in 2021.

The firm alleged that though the actor had committed to complete the movie ‘Corona Kumar’ before taking up any other project, he failed to honour the commitment.

When the plea came up for hearing on Tuesday, the firm provided a copy of the agreement signed with Simbu. Perusing the agreement, the court found that only ₹1 crore was mentioned as agreed remuneration.

Recording the same, the court directed the actor to furnish security to Rs 1 crore only and adjourned the hearing to September 19. The court made it clear that it would be constrained to pass further orders if the actor failed to comply with the interim order.
