Madras Day celebrations: Art competition to be held for school children
CHENNAI: As part of the Madras Day celebrations, The Times of India along with United Way of Chennai will conduct an art competition cum expo for school children at Valluvar Kottam here on Tuesday.
The competition will be judged by renowned artists Thotta Tharani, Parvathi Nayar and Sharmila Mohandas. Actor Suhasini Maniratnam will be the chief guest.
Registrations will start at the venue at 7am.

About hundred schools in the city, both corporation and private schools, will set up stalls to exhibit art works under the theme “My Madras.”
“Participants can create any art in the form of painting, sketching and making models under the topic. The idea is to get a combination of corporation and private school children together and look at their dream Madras,” said Shyamala Ashok, of United Way of Chennai. Each schools will consist of a team of five children accompanied by a teacher.
From 9am to 12.30pm, students will have a simultaneous workshop on entrepreneurship conducted by Great Lakes Institute of Management. Later in the evening, there will be a cultural show by students of corporation schools.
