The walk is organised as part of 379th birth anniversary celebration of Madras.

"The annual heritage walk will make us understand the history in ecological point of view. A visit to cemeteries and light house, live demonstration of centuries old palm-leaf craft and much more will enhance our perception," said Xavier Benedict of AARDE Foundation who is the organiser of the walk.

The Pulicat Lagoon is the second largest brackish water body in India covering an area of 757 square km. Located in the centre of Buckingham Canal, which stretches 798km from Kakinada (AP) to Marakanam (TN), Pulicat was once a prominent port of south east coast for cotton export which attracted the Arabs (AD 700), Europeans (AD 1502), and Japanese (AD 1619) to it.

The tour will start at Nungambakkam at 7am.
