CHENNAI: A truck driver was electrocuted, after the vehicle touched the overhead cable at Madhavaram on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Kaliraj, 32 of Sathur.

On Sunday, Kaliraj was driving the truck from Chennai Harbour and went to the Madhavaram Truck Terminal. When he entered the terminal, he failed to notice the overhead cable, which touched the vehicle. In the impact, the truck driver suffered an electric shock and died on the spot.

The other truck drivers, who noticed the incident came to his rescue and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The truck driver was about to take the vehicle to Madurai, when the accident took place, police said.

Based on information, police rushed to the spot and sent the body for a post mortem. Police said usually a cleaner would be guiding the driver and alert him in case of overhead cable. Kaliraj did not have a cleaner and he failed to notice the overhead power cable, police said.
