Madhan’s mystery run ends, cops get him from Tirupur woman’s house
CHENNAI: The city police put an end to the six-month-old mystery surrounding the disappearance of former
Madhan, who was associated with the
Chennai city police commissioner S George told reporters on Monday that the man missing case has been solved with Madhan‘s arrest. Investigations will now resume on complaints from the medical seat aspirants, he said. A special team comprising deputy commissioner Ambathur R Sudhakar, assistant commissioners S Nandakumar and four inspectors had been gathering information on Madan from his friends, relatives and acquaintances.
Before handing over the case to the special team, the city police had traced Madan to a hotel in Haridwar in Uttarakhand, but he managed to escape before a police team reached there. “The team came to know from a woman that Madhan had brought land and houses in Roorkee, Uttarakhand and that he was sending money to a man in Manipur,” the police commissioner said.
After nabbing the man in Manipur, police learned about Madhan’s contact with a woman in Tirupur. “On Sunday night, our team arrested Madhan from a secret room in her house in Tirupur,” the police commissioner said.
Less than a week after he went missing, police received a complaint against Madhan on June 1. Later, 123 parents of MBBS seat aspirants filed complaints against him stating that he had collected Rs84.27 crore from them. On August 26, police arrested SRM Group chairman and SRM University chancellor
They alleged that Madhan collected money acting as the group’s agent. SRM Group chairman denied links with Madhan and sought to disassociate himself from the alleged collection of money. Pachamuthu was granted conditional bail in September.
