Lok Sabha polls: PMK ensured social justice in candidates’ selection, Ramadoss says
CHENNAI: PMK founder leader S Ramadoss on Saturday said the party ensured social justice in the selection of candidates by giving due representation to women and dalit community for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Ramadoss said he was proud that 30% of the party’s candidates are women and 20% are dalits. He claimed that no other party in Tamil Nadu had given such representation to women.
Similarly, apart from the dalit parties, neither the Dravidian parties nor any other parties have given 20% representation to Scheduled Caste people.
“That's why we say that PMK is a social justice party,” he said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
He said of the 10 party’s candidates three candidates - Soumiya Anbumani (Dharmapuri), poet Thilagabama (Dindigul) and Jyoti Venkatesan (Kancheepuram) – are women. “This is women's empowerment, this is social justice,” he said.
He pointed out that the party allocated two constituencies – Chidambaram and Rasipuram – to the Scheduled Caste candidates while contesting only seven constituencies in the 1999 Lok Sabha polls.
