Krishnagiri boy tops Tamil Nadu medical rank list

Nishanth Rajan K of Krishnagiri, Mukesh Kannan M of Trichy and Praveen R of Tiruchengode bagged the first three places on the rank list for MBBS and BDS courses issued by the Tamil Nadu directorate of medical education on Monday.

CHENNAI: Nishanth Rajan K of Krishnagiri, Mukesh Kannan M of Trichy and Praveen R of Tiruchengode bagged the first three places on the rank list for MBBS and BDS courses issued by the Tamil Nadu directorate of medical education on Monday.
Releasing the rank list, health minister C Vijaya Baskar said state medical education had benefited with an increase of 710 seats in the past four years.

They include the recent MCI sanction for 100 seats at a new medical college on the Omandurar campus.
Selection committee secretary Dr Usha Sadhasivan said they had received a total of 32, 184 applications for the year 2015-2016 out of which 215 were duplicate applications and 444 were deemed ineligible.
“So a total of 31,525 applications have been deemed eligible and these students would be competing for the 2,257 seats in the state quota for the first phase of counselling,” she said.
Director of medical education Dr Geethalakshmi released the names of the students who secured the first 17 ranks with a 200/200 cut-off.
“The first phase of counselling would begin at the Omandurar multi-specialty hospital on June 19 and will be held for the special, sports and disabled category. The general category counselling would be held from June 20 till June 25,” she said.
She added that random numbers were used on 60 candidates.
