Kin recover suicide note, stage road roko
VELLORE: Four days after Class XI student S Arun Prasath committed
The note accused a few teachers including maths teacher Kannappan of torture following which Arun killed himself.
Angered by this, Arun’s parents thrashed a teacher at Poigai village government boys higher secondary
The boy’s relatives further staged a demonstration outside the school and shouted slogans demanding the arrest of all teachers who abetted the sucide of Arun Prasath. According to sources, around 975 students study at Poigai Government boys higher secondary school.
Following the road roko, the school administration declared a day leave for all students.
Muthamizh Selvan, a relative of the student, said, “Arun Prasath committed suicide by hanging at his house on Monday but we couldn’t ascertain the reason for his death then. On Friday morning, when his mother was cleaning his room, she found a suicide note left behind by Arun which revealed the reason that led him to commit suicide.”
The Virinjipuram police officials were immediately alerted and the injured Kannappan was admitted to Government Vellore medical college and hospital. Vellore Chief education officer S Mars visited the school and dispersed the protestors by assuring appropriate departmental action after an inquiry.
Speaking to TOI, CEO S Mars said, “According to preliminary inquiries, it was found that Arun Prasath was irregular to school and was on leave for more than 15 days. A few teachers including Kannapan allegedly chided him and asked to bring his parents to the school which caused him to take the extreme step over fear for his parents.”
Mars assured that a fresh inquiry will be conducted as the preliminary information was based on the teachers statement.
